by esther925 11. February 2009 17:13

In ZuluMoon’s collection of Bali Jewelry, you will find this invigorating Fossilized Coral pendant.  It is so beautiful in color, and even though it carries a tale of ancient fossilized history, it also has a very young-at-heart and energetic radiance about it.   The accent stones are amethyst and moonstone, highlighting the trace elements and minerals in the coral stone.

A Lesson on Jewelry-Buying for Men Who Can’t Define Their Relationship

by esther925 2. February 2009 16:57

Perhaps you’re the kind of man who likes to take things slow.  Really slow.  There’s nothing wrong with that, but sometimes those progressive phases in your boy-girl relationships can get a little fuzzy.  Whereas other men might go through phases like: 1. Strangers 2. Acquaintances 3. Boyfriend/Girlfriend, you require a lot more.  1. Strangers 2. Strangers Who Notice Each Other 3. Acquaintances 4. Friendly-Like  5. Friends 6. Possibly More Than Friends…and the list goes on and on.

So, you are stuck with an awkward situation when you want to buy something nice for your lady-friend, without forcing things into the next phase.  You just want to remind her that you care for her, that you appreciate her, in a way that is possibly a little romantic but definitely not over the top.  ZuluMoon has got the perfect solution for you, Mr. Non-Committal.  Get her a claddagh ring  with a gemstone for that added loving touch.  Claddagh rings are very symbolic, as mentioned in the Dec 28 2008 blog. “The heart symbolizes love, of course; the hands correspond to friendship, and the crown conveys loyalty.  When the three symbols are put together, the message as a whole could read Let Friendship and Love Reign Forever.  Isn't that beautiful?

She may like the amethyst stone claddagh, or this claddagh with malachite inlay.

Caribbean + Volcano + the Mystery of Atlantis= Great Heart Pendants

by esther925 26. January 2009 16:02

A new addition to ZuluMoon is their Larimar Jewelry.  If you are like me, you’ve never heard of it before.  Well, I’ll share a few of the highlights of the Larimar gemstone as told on the official ZuluMoon Larimar page….  It is mined from volcanic tubes in the deep blue waters of the Caribbean, and is a rare gemstone indeed. (How rare?  Check out the link above to the ZuluMoon page!) Larimar is mined by hand and is sometimes called the Atlantis Stone because it is said to be the gem of the lost continent of Atlantis.

As you see below, Larimar is a pretty, delicately blue stone.  These heart pendants are particularly amazing, because their beauty is undeniable and the wonderful rarity and mystery that surrounds the stone makes it even more enchanting.  Gentlemen, this is the gift for which you’ve been searching.  This is the one for the lady whom you love.

Pictured at left is a heart pendant with Larimar inlays and 24k gold accents Pictured at right is a heart pendant with Larimar inlays and white topaz accents. Either one is sure to please.

Sweetheart Gifts for Him: Part 2

by esther925 21. January 2009 17:46

If you have a special man in your life and you are searching for the perfect gift, here are a few ideas.  (Part 1 of this article was published on 1/10/09.)

If the man in your life is particularly shy when it comes to wearing jewelry, or perhaps he is a man who just likes to stick to the basics, this ring could be the perfect choice for him.  A beautiful square-cut piece of black onyx tops the brawny sterling silver band.  No frills, and easy to coordinate with many outfits and many occasions.

If your man likes a little bling when he’s out and about, then this sterling silver mens ring with 4 princess cut CZs  and 16 round CZs will make a great gift.  The texture atop the silver band adds to the sparkle and shine of the ring, so the “bling” effect is sure to be noticed.

If your sweetheart could be classified as a “gentle giant” or a “teddybear”, this large mens’ spinner ring may be just the right fit for him.  Available in ring sizes 8-13, this sturdy sterling silver wide band with a crosshatch pattern has a rope-shaped spinner band to top it off.  Your cuddly man will appreciate the masculine appearance with the easy wearability.

If your sweetheart is at the brink of graduation, or a job promotion, give him the added confidence he deserves with the gift of handsome cufflinks.  This pair is a modern rectangular shape with a high-class black genuine onyx inset.

Sweetheart Gifts for Her: Sorted by Personality

by esther925 12. January 2009 16:17

If she likes to get attention, she'll love wearing this to social events.  This 25-stone CZ ring is surprisingly inexpensive, too!

If she supports village artisans, OR frequents the spends a lot of time at the arts/crafts store, OR has expressed a desire to flamenco dance, this set of chandelier earrings is probably well suited for her personality.

If she prefers to life a simple life: she's not very demanding, she doesn't do anything in excess, then this very elegant but uncomplicated garnet heart ring

will probably suit her perfectly.  Even "complicated" women like a bit of simplicity now and then.

If she is a very sentimental person, she likes to keep the special ones close to her heart.  Give her this heart-shaped locket with blue topaz accent, and make her day.

Don't see anything that suits your lady love?  Don't worry; we'll have more Sweetheart Gifts for Her next week.

Runway Inspiration: Missoni Fall 2008

by esther925 28. December 2008 14:31

I would like to share with you this great jewelry inspiration right off of the fashion runway.  In Missoni’s Fall 2008 show, this look came down the runway, the basic elements of which you can adapt for your fall/winter look.  It is a simple, bold look and very easy to duplicate.  Start with a turtleneck, in any color; teals and berries are very hot now.  Layer on a cape (like shown); alternatively a capelet, a cropped jacket, or a sweater vest.  There are many fashionable sweater options available for layering.  For the piéce de resistance, wear a bold and colorful piece of statement jewelry with gemstones.  The necklace in the picture contains a lot of metalwork and at least 4 colors of gems; it’s definitely a conversation starter.   ZuluMoon.com has hundreds of gemstone necklaces, and below are pictured a few favorites for the Missoni look.

About Amber Jewelry

by silver_jewelry_fan 10. August 2007 06:56

Amber jewelry can delight the senses with warm hues of only the most esteemed quality, handcrafted with the finest silver (sterling silver). Amber necklaces, amber earrings and amber bracelets with natural amber inclusions set in silver—usually directly from Poland.

There are several vital facts to know about amber jewelry:

  • Amber comes in many hues and shades. The most common are honey, cognac, green, ivory, lemon yellow and cream/yellow.
  • Amber is a fossilized tree resin. It took millions of years to form.
  • Amber is lightweight. Due to the fact that it is an organic substance, every piece is unique.
  • On occasion, amber will usually contain plant remnants or insects that were first trapped and preserved millions of years ago.
  • An important commodity for ancient cultures, amber was always valued vastly. It was traded around the world as far back as nearly 10,000 years ago.
  • There are huge deposits of amber located below the bottom of the Baltic Sea and amber stones are tossed out by waves during weather storms.

In Poland, amber is collected from the sea and beaches. It is sought for and extracted from old beaches. Amber is normally buried deep under ground and situated either south towards the land or even more north towards the sea than the beach line at present. Today, amber is washed ashore by waves of the Baltic Sea. Amber is still fished out from special nets connected to long poles after weather storms.

A scintillating array of amber jewelry beautifies most jewelry catalogues: traditional handcrafted amber necklaces, amber bracelets and cutting-edge, modern designer Baltic amber jewelry—with styles that stretch from the simple to the sublime. Precious jewelry designs are created and sold by the millions around the globe. Baltic amber is most sought after because it is uniquely known for its quality.

To enjoy amber jewelry for many years, there are several simple precautions that must be taken into consideration. Due to the softness of amber, as well as its brittleness and susceptibility to attack by oxidation and different chemicals, amber jewelry pieces require special care in storing and handling. Amber beads shouldn’t be stored where they have a tendency to rub against other pieces of jewelry or metal. Best for storing and protecting each individual amber bead are velvet or soft flannel pouches with drawstring tops.

It’s not difficult to remove perspiration and dust from amber beads. You can simply wipe the amber beads with a soft flannel cloth dampened with clean, lukewarm water. The amber beads should be dried cautiously and rubbed lightly with clear olive oil, then rubbed with a supple cloth to remove excess oil and restore the polish.

It’s advisable to avoid placing amber jewelry pieces in any strong solutions. An important precaution is to refrain from allowing amber to come in contact with hair spray or perfume. Amber shouldn’t come in contact with commercial jewelry cleaning solutions either. It’s also sound advice to remove amber jewelry while cooking to avoid excessive heat. Hot water is not advisable for cleaning amber.

Garnet Jewelry Still In Style

by Administrator 13. July 2007 06:58
Garnet may be the oldest group of minerals used as abrasives and gemstones, but it’s still popular today. A family of gems rather than a single gemstone, a garnet is available in fine qualities. Available in a wide array of colors (with the possible exception of blue) which span the entire color spectrum, garnets are most often seen in red. Six common varieties of garnet are recognized based on chemical composition: pyrope, almandine, spessartite, grossular (cinnamon stone and tsavorite), uvarovite and andradite. Garnets make up two solid solution series: pyrope-almandine-spessarite and uvarovite-grossular-andradite.
Many Christians believe that garnet is the gemstone used by Noah to illuminate the Ark. Considered to be the gem of faith, truth and constancy, legend has it that garnet jewelry will improve the social skill and communication of the wearer. Asiatic tribes carved garnets into bullets in the belief that their fiery color would inflict more fatal wounds. They were ground into powder for the treatment of jaundice or fever. Apothecary was accused of using an imitation if the cure didn’t work.
A wide assortment is accessible at affordable prices. The most popular and recognized of garnets are the pyrope garnets and deep red almandine. The pyrope has a tendency to have less brown in it. Although, fine quality pyrope may be confused with a dark ruby, but medium quality looks like almandine. The almandine is what most individuals think of when garnet is mentioned.
The tsavorite garnet is unique from other garnets. It almost doesn’t even resemble a garnet with its vivid, radiant green. The color range of the tsavorite includes a spring-like light green, a highly intense blue-green and a deep forest green. These colors have a refreshing and invigorating effect on the senses. However, the garnet gemstone is also valuable due to its extreme brilliance. Like all the other garnets, it even has a particularly high refractive index of 1.734/44. Legend has it that a garnet’s sparkling light remains visible even through clothing.
The tsavorite, unlike many other gemstones, is neither oiled nor burnt. Garnet is not in any need of this sort of treatment, as it is simply a piece of unadulterated, pure nature. The garnet is also renowned for its robust characteristic. Although it has nearly the same hardness as the more expensive emerald, it is without a doubt less sensitive. This is a vital feature when the stone is set and when it’s being worn. A tsavorite is not likely to crack or even splinter due to an incautious movement.
In recent years, the rhodolite is the garnet that has become increasingly popular, for its lively red-violet that resembles a glass of rose wine. It may resemble a plum sapphire or a violet ruby. Garnet jewelry is the birthstone for the month of January. It may even be given as a gemstone on the 2nd and 6th wedding anniversary. The light transmission properties of the garnet can range from the gemstone-quality transparent specimens to the opaque varieties found in abrasives for industrial purposes.
